CLASS: SNL Sketch Writing 2-Day Workshop

PIT This two-day workshop is for anyone who has thought about writing sketch comedy for stage or television. If you've got the ideas and want to know how to build a sketch, this class is for you. This class will demystify what an SNL sketch looks like, what a "packet" for SNL or other sketch shows consists of and what "readers" are looking for in a packet.

The class will focus on a commercial parody for the first day (which you will bring to the first class) and a two-person, five-page page sketch for the second day. As one of the only former SNL writers teaching in the country, Ali Farahnakian will give you a clear, concise point of view of someone who has been in the belly of the beast. Ali has taught this class to more than 700 people.

There are three sections for this class. Each section is limited to 12 people and consists of a three-hour session on each day. The sections are:
  • July 14-15 (Fr-Sa) from 7-10 p.m.
  • July 15-16 (Sa-Su) from 10 a.m. - 1 p.m.
  • July 15-16 (Sa-Su) from 2-5 p.m.
  • TUITION: $250. Once registration is completed there are no refunds or cancellations.

    Seating Policies

The first show of any night is the "early" show. All other shows are "late" shows. Early shows are seated by time of arrival. The earlier you get to the club, the better your seat will be. Late shows have assigned seating by time of ticket purchase. The earlier you buy tickets, the better your seats will be.

DOOR TIMES: Doors usually open at 6:30 for an early show. (When the early show is at 7, we open at 6.) Seating for late shows usually begins 30 minutes before showtime. If you purchased tickets to a late show and would like to be seated together with another party, call the Improv at 202-296-7008 and inform us ahead of time.
